Mum arrives in Guernsey

Breakfast, Lorraine and I late again, but having had a good night's sleep. A beautiful day to drive around Guernsey in. First stop The Little Chapel and the clockmaker's nearby. Pat I think particularly enjoyed The Little Chapel. Its diminutive caddis fly shell beauty rarely disappoints. From here we drove to Jerbourg and pointed out the islands, had a stroll down the road to the corner of the island where there is a donkey under a Guernsey flag, showing its nether regions to Jersey. A cup of tea at Jerbourg, served by the world's least smiling tea kiosk lady. From there, an aborted attempt to reach the cafe on the seafront at Fermain Bay, so instead we scooted off into Town, to a place called Hojo's where I have been a few times without ever really noticing the Japanese theme to its food. The place is amusingly pretentious but we all opted for a Japanese-lite chicken soup with ramen noodles, which was eaten gamely by all with a variety of eating irons and chopstick...
Shades Poetry focus early this morning, and the poem I have been struggling with about The Little Chapel coming good. Also sent off an advert for a Guernsey Double (even though I am still finishing some of the poems) to a mag in Guernsey. Also ordered A4 flyers for the concert. Feeling overwhelmed still. Out in a sunny afternoon, buying a dinosaur-based present for Oskar, after some consultation with Anna (who has already been passing around flyers for the concert), and some aviator shades, which--judging by what I saw on sale--are this year's thing. Reminded me of a pair I had when I was 16, and these were cosmic. But then again so was I. Passed Anna the Godmother's house and bumped into her and the Godbairns. Oskar straight away curious about what was in my bag, and Klaudia telling me cheekily that she knew, and squeezing my arm. Sweet how the kids seemed so pleased to see me. It is a wonderful thing to have Godchildren. Anna very cheery and nice as usual. Lovely woman. Feeli...

The Vazon wind Cold and wintery today. After breakfast, five large people crammed into Kate's minute hire Ka and we set off to the Little Chapel. Everyone liked this and there was a blaze of competitive photography. It is a tiny building, decorated with broken china. I noticed this time that when you are inside its unlit interior down in the lower part, that the little shafts of light make the china begin to look like a dim stained glass window. From here we drove to the west coast, stopping for a cup of tea opposite the cup and saucer (Fort Grey) as Craig was on a mission to buy souvenier tea towels. Then driving along the coast until Vazon where we walked about in the wind and under dark skies, and it was fabulous. Few people around, and the flat sand dotted with torn away clumps of bladderwrack. Had a mental flashback to being a child running down to the sea with Toby (who always liked Vazon) holding a inflated lilo in the wind. From there into town for a slow meal in the harbou...
