Porlocked by a meter man

Image
Got on with work from my French client this morning, after fiddling with some poems. The job fairly easy as I had broken the back of it yesterday afternoon. My French clients seemed pleased with the result, responding with an email that said 'You are Perfect!' which made me smile. Good to have a bit of work, as the big job that was supposed to start today has been bumped for a day. A man from Porlock interlude when a surly and deeply annoying man unexpectedly arrived to install smart meters. Lorraine had got halfway through filling in the form online and changed her mind at the weekend, but they came anyway. He kicked off by asking me to keep an eye on his car, as if I had nothing better to do. I gave him a permit. When made any enquiry, such as why is the house full of gas smell, he replied mostly non verbally or in two or three words. Then he went and sat outside in his car with the front door open for 20 minutes. When I went out and asked the stupid meter man if we were don...

A spot of limbo

At home today, and really happy to be so. Although my pesky ankle hurting again, drawing on my  stiff upper lippery. As exemplified by the character Stevens in The Remains of the Day . I have almost finished this wonderful, deft book. Otherwise I busied myself about my social media tasks, and downloaded Robin's book Blogging for Creatives and my latest experiences of working alongside a social media team make me realise I am doing a lot of things wrong -- but this means at least I can begin to rectify things. Spoke to Nev who called me up and had a long chat with him. Having spent several years working every day with Nev it doesn't take long to tune in again. After following up with the estate agent, it became clear that the person we are in negotiation with to buy a house is away, and so is her partner, so we won't get a firm yes or no till next Tuesday. Lorraine back this afternoon, slogging from home and this sent her into a bit of a gloom as it is a long time in h...

Never let me go I felt happier today than I have for a long time. To the gym where I felt energised, then working on Skelton Yawngrave. Rereading the new opening I am now convinced it is far better that previous versions. In the evening Lorraine and I off to see Never let me go . I loved Kasuo Ishiguro's novel last year, and the film is very true to the book. Gorgeous muted lyricism to the film's visual style. Loved it. Really brought out the sadness of the book, and as a metaphor for life in general it was pretty bleak. A proper grown up movie which I heartily recommend. Lorraine liked it too, and got through two hankies. Below a typical example of the film's muted palette, perfectly capturing the book's feel.
Quiet Feeling a tad brighter this morning, and unlike every day last week, and didn't yawn my entire journey into London. Also walking in a reasonably human way again, which is nice. Work tolerable, working for many hours with Aseir in Quiet , one of a pair of small meeting rooms, the other being called Peace . Found the half hour between 4:00pm and 4:30pm lasted some three or four hours in subjective PK time. A sensation I never have while working from home. Pat asked me to stay on for some time to work on a large website and other bits. This a boost to the Kenny coffers and means that after this stint, and the other work I have been doing, the wolf will have backed well away from my door, which is good news - and will presage a big period of being able to work at my things again without worrying. Home listening to Never Let Me Go , by Kasuo Ishiguro on my iPod, a book which is proving quietly fascinating. Home and decided to send at the last minute a poem for the Guernsey poems o...
