Poking the swivel-eyes

Editing at eightish, which took a couple of hours as there was a something wrong with my channel on part of the recording, then sent it back to Robin and wrote the episode show notes. Then off to the Polling Station round the corner to vote. The only local political type lurking by the door wondering if you'd voted was from the Lib Dems. We voted tactically for the Lib Dems as they were much more likely to beat the incumbent Tory.   Home to write the blurb for the poddy, then made off to Brighton by bus, as there had been some kind of points failure between here and Lewes. Lovely journey, very windy and very sunny, with just a few little clouds and the sea white capped and greenish.   Went into the jewellers to return Lorraine's ring from which a stone had fallen out, they were very nice about it and will replace the missing stone. Then down to see Stacy to sort out my hair. Brighton lively, and the Pavilion gardens packed out, and parties of foreign school kids filing up Nort...

New cafe

Image
Calliope woke me ridiculously early because she was bored. An amazing hot sunny day. This morning Lorraine organising a safe driving course first thing, as the cameras on the main road at the end of ours caught her speeding by 6 mph. Her street name round these parts is Lozza the Offender. We walked into town, and L the Offender went off to deliver Rhyme Time to toddlers and their carers.  I sloped to the Lanes Eatery, a cafe across the road from the graveyard (dead centre of Seaford etc.)   I think this may be my new cafe, with a scattering of people in it at that time of day and enough room to find a corner to write in. Luckily I was far enough away from the geezer blowharding to his wife about politics not to be disturbed. But as the general election is hurtling towards us, this only to be expected.  I saw a tweet today with a picture of a pint of milk with a best by date of 5th July. The poster said it is now possible to buy milk that will outlast this Tory government...

Beggaring belief

A cold, rainy general election day. Vile cold improving. Now frustrated by wanting to get on with things, but having no energy and unable to concentrate. Mes amis in France paid me twice for the same job, and I had to sign a bank form to reclaim the money, and I ventured out into the torrent to post it. When Lorraine back early from School, she drove Beth and I off to the polling station, and we all voted in what was a hight turnout. Voting for Caroline Lucas a bit of a no-brainer in Brighton as she is the candidate guaranteed to beat the Tory, but also.... It's the climate stupid. Lorraine had a Christmas Tree from Bolney with her, and after we got home we inserted this into the stand, but the lights from last year refused to work, or worked momentarily then went out. All a bit mysterious and Beth mentioned  Stranger Things where Christmas style lights are linked to a sinister underworld called The Upside Down. Stayed up till ten, the exit poll predicted a massive...

A nation reels

Image
Spent the morning trying to get my head around the Election results, and generally feeling heartened by them. Went to sleep not believing the polls taken of voters that there would be a hung parliament, and hearing the first to election results which showed a much smaller swing to labour. Awoke to find the nation reeling in surprise that the Jeremy Corbyn's campaign had been so successful, while Theresa May's robotic reputation of strong and stable, whiled doing U-Turns and hiding from the public had mysteriously not gone down so well.  What I am most pleased about is that there are clear signs that young people actually voted in their droves this time, many of them energised by Labour. This has to be good for democracy. Pleased also to see the MP I voted for, Caroline Lucas, who is the only Green MP in parliament greatly increase her majority. She is pound for pound one of the most effective MPs around. As I put on a rare Facebook post, we need bridge builders not balloon juic...
