A perfect walk

Image
Up for a full Guernsey Breakfast, and then contemplated what to do. It was a cool but sunny day, and Lorraine and I decided to go down to Moulin Huet bay. However as we walked down Moulin Huet valley we began to realise the tide would be fairly high, and suddenly opted instead for a cliff walk to Jerbourg. We mooched steadily along taking moments to stop and sit and stare at the beautiful cliffs, and look at all the flowers. It was such a nice time. When we reached Jerbourg, we went to the kiosk and had a couple of pieces of toasted gâche and some teas and cold drinks. From there we walked back until we cut in from the main road to walk along the paths to the wishing well.  A big building job was going on there, however, and the well was dry. Tried not to read too much into the wishing well being dry, however the water was still flowing down the waterlane and it was still beautiful. I did my wish a bit further along as the stream fell towards the top of Moulin Huet. From there we...

Moulin Huet magic

Last full day in Guernsey. Up for a full Guernsey Breakfast. A hot and sunny day. Lorraine we sat by the pool, and Lorraine listened to her audiobook, I read and then went for a short walk  down Rue Des Grons and returning via Longtrac, and then Rue des Marettes towards the Barbarie again. Gorgeous day. Lorraine and I then finally organised ourselves and set off for Moulin Huet. Our cunning plan was to have a snack at the cafe above the bay, but this was closed on Thursdays. So we walked back up the hill, up the water lanes where we paused to make a wish, before buying some snackables and walking down again. To the bay where the sand was about to emerge. Spent a hours there, paddling about in the sea with the sun beating down on us.  A duck and two ducklings bobbing and scooting on the waves. A few people there, a group of middle aged Germans with bulging calf muscles, who marched across the whole bay, swum efficiently in the cold water and marched off again. Most of the tim...

Arriving in Guernsey

Image
Up early this morning, and Lorraine drove us off to Gatwick. Overcast day in Brighton. A queue at the Aurigny desk, as people had failed to get to Guernsey yesterday because of fog. One young chap was saying the had been circling for two hours. However everyone aboard today. The propellor plane held up on the runway for some time, and Lorraine and I started looking at Richard's collection Stone Witness again. I tucked it into the pocket once we were lumbering into the sky, and left it there when I got off, rather annoyingly. Once above the clouds a lovely smooth flight, and approaching the Channel Islands the blanket of cloud that had covered everything ended. Shortly after we landed the sun came out. A taxi to La Barbarie, and then we walked straight off to Icart. The cloud breaking up and the sun coming out, though shreds of misty cloud were still clinging on here and there.  Beautiful. Icart Point gorgeous as usual, and we sat on our usual bench in the sun. After a while we ...

Last day in heaven

Image
An absolutely beautiful day in Guernsey, in our personal heaven. Up to eat a kipper breakfast, then down towards Saints and along the cliff path then down to Moulin Huet bay. Spent several hours sitting getting quite hot in the sun, listening to the sea and the birds, and watching a woman and her dog go for a swim together, a bit of scrambling over rocks and reading books too, (I was reading about Aimé Césaire). Then as the tide drew in we sat above the bay on the bench, and I sat there doing one of those listening meditation things, listing to the sounds of the seabirds, and the other birds in the cliffside bushes and woodland behind me, and the sound of waves breaking on the rocks all around, moving to further and further away sounds with the warmth on my face. After a while the weather changed, and it grew a little misty. We walked home and after a rest, and packed our case, met Jane and Richard for a quick drink before our supper. They have been pet sitting in a big house near ...

Moulin Huet and the moon

Image
A breakfast in our self-catered room of Guernsey tomatoes fried in butter on toast. An unhurried and excellent way to start the day.  Eventually we organised ourselves, and Mum went off to see Ken a brother of my Granddad, while Lorraine and I popped into The Captain's to book a table and then sauntered down to Moulin Huet. It was a gorgeously sunny day with the tide having turned recently and starting to come in. We lurked about, Lorraine finding rocks to sit in the sun on till the sun started lapping at her feet, reading and absorbing the Moulin Huet loveliness. I lurked about with my camera snapping at everything with complete abandon eventually as the sun went behind some clouds and things got cooler we made our way up the hill again. And met Mum coming the other way. She went down to the bay to take some snaps. Lorraine and I made our way to The Captains where Mum met us a little later. A good Sunday lunch to be had there, and couple of refreshing pints of beer as I mentio...
