Rich pickings

Up early this morning and working on a bit of work for mes amis in Paris. The storm had died down, and one of the tomato pots in the garden had blown over. Luckily I was able to right it, and everything was still intact. The French work, about palatable animal antibiotics that improve compliance, finished to Val satisfaction,  I had a bite to eat, toyed with the new poem in the back garden, then made off into the scratchy brambles of the golf course around Hollingbury hill to get another tupperware full of blackberries, not quite as much as last time, but around 800grams worth. Took a lot of picking, both easy and hard, as there were plentiful nettles between the brambles I got stung lots as well as scratched. Still it was worth it. Home again, and chatted with Carl and had a good laugh, although Ellie had an accident in her car but is okay. Lorraine home early, from having worked at school, and we pieced together little bits of film she shot welcoming people back to school. Sp...

Quite a busy day for us on a Saturday. A gorgeous day, so we had breakfast (Lorraine counting the calories) in bed and then sat in the back garden. Lorraine lying on her lounger for the first time this year. In the afternoon, Lorraine had bought us tickets to go to a big tent in Preston Park, the Brighton Comedy Garden. Obviously nowhere better to be than in a big tent on a wonderful sunny day. Three excellent comedians, Brighton based Zoe Lyons, the ventriloquist Nina Conti, who we have seen before and like lots, Sarah Pascoe, below. All three were excellent.  Zoe Lyons playing to a home crowd, and Lorraine particularly loving Nina Conti. I liked Sarah Pascoe's almost losing it scattiness. The host was Ivo Graham. There were two breaks, so we could nip out into the impromptu village that had sprung up and buy cans of Red Stripe lager. Great to be able to walk home with the sun still high in the sky. We returned home, then popped next door to a little barbecue party. Slightly a...

Saturday. I got up early, and bumped into Dawn outside after a futile attempt to buy bread at 8.00pm. Got up and worked, then cooked bacon and egg sarnies and took up to Lorraine, and went back to bed to eat them with her. Later we went off to look at front doors. We went off to R & G Goatley a firm of door purveyors who have a commercial whose tune is aired on local radio and Lorraine sings when she drives past it. We looked at doors. Bloody expensive things front doors. Chastened we went home via some other shops and simply relaxed in the afternoon. Innis sent me a link to all the photos he'd taken of me, and there were lots of really good photos of me in glorious black and white. I was well pleased, and told him he'd managed to turn a pig's ear into a silk purse. This evening we went off to The Fountain Head where we met Innis, Rosie, and Beth, and were later joined by John and Emily's Rosie's lovely sister. We were all off to see Nina Conti's In your...
