Home to sad news Talked to Anton this afternoon who had some very sad news about Keith his stepdad who died yesterday. Keith was a very generous man and kind man, who latterly got immense pleasure from his relationship with Oskar and Klaudia. I feel really sad for Anne, Anton's Mum, and sent her a card this afternoon. To send a card after such a momentous and life changing event seems paltry, but I guess the thought's the thing. Up at 5:30am, and due to the clocks springing forward this seemed even earlier. Stole away from La Barbarie and all too quickly was watching Guernsey slide behind the 7.00am plane's starboard wing while Lorraine dozed. Home to a pleased, although slightly bitey, Calliope. And Sam sleeping, as only teenagers can, till mid afternoon. He stayed till the evening playing World of Warcraft before Lorraine came to take him and his technology. He'd done a good job, and the house was in good shape, and the cat clearly likes him. Meanwhile I generally zo...

Don Kenny Today I became a Godfather. Sicilian hot day in Brighton, I wondered up the hill clutching my bag of two bibles to Anna and Anton's house where Anna's mum and dad, and brothers and sister, Anton's Mum, the Godparents to be Brian and Anna and her family, and Lorraine all met up before going off to St Nicholas church. As befits a church named after the patron saint of sailors, it is set on a hill overlooking the sea with views of Brighton. Lovely interior too, and generally quite a lively and friendly church. But there was lots of aromatic smoke, which incensed me (arf). I sat on the front pew with Brian and Anna, the two other Godparents. Only the lovely Christianne who lives in Australia and is currently on her honeymoon was missing. None of us on the front pew knew exactly what to do, and Brian told Anna that they might end up married by the end of the ceremony. For some reason I get a bit twitchy in important church ceremonies. I keep thinking something embarras...

Steamy Sunday Anton and Bob's birthdays today. Up early and while I was typing in my back yard Anton called and said did I fancy going to the flea market by the station. Wandered about with him and baby Oskar. A chuffing big steamtrain in the station below, which attracted lots of attention as it huffed out of the station. Something almost organic about steamtrains. Anton in a good mood and parading about generally talking about his "birthday month". After we were done at the market, I wandered through the lanes to buy Anton his present, of a Swedish massage voucher. Then met up with him and Anna and the kids, Brian and Anne and Keith, Anton's folks. We went to the Tin Drum for a good Birthday feed. I was feeling a bit washed out today. Slight stomach ache and so on making me feel a bit wussy and tired. After a good deal of chatting to Anne and Keith, I went home for a bit of a siesta and a small spot of tending to my roses. In the evening I returned up the hill to ba...
