Fox meat surprise

Image
Another day with Keith, working as our virtual team. His regular partner, Ross, is working on a longer contract, so we may be hooking up a bit more regularly for a while.  Otherwise not much to report. I spoke to Mum who said she had been talking to Maureen and was mystified to learn that Maureen had cooked a recipe with pickled walnuts and fox meat. Pickled walnuts are delicious and quite a favourite in Lorraine's family, but the fox meat is new. Reassured Mum, who had been puzzling on this, that there had probably been a miscommunication. Mum also said she got, very early, the card we sent her for Mother's Day. Lorraine had a slightly better day, with parents behaving better. Did a few broken up short walks again to get to my daily total. Began listening to Kazuo Ishiguro's new novel Klara and the sun as I toddled. I am a fan of his work. Calliope's desk nest is still working a treat.

Pitching into a holiday

Up at six this morning, and off to the station to catch the 7:01 train to Blackfriars, which weirdly enough wasn't delayed, cancelled or anything. Preparing the pitch on the train, then met with Matty, Mark, Helen and Dave in the Starbucks. Then off to the charity to do our pitch. Went fairly well I think, Matty and Mark a very good double act, and I did my presentation well. Helen is nice, and has worked with Paula and Marcella in the past and said some good stuff. Dave who is out of his comfort zone pitching did well too. The client wasn't giving much away and we were the first agency they saw. All done by 11 o'clock and then a saunter along the street to Blackfriars where I eventually caught the train back to Brighton. Again playing patience on my computer, and listening to the audiobook The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro. I really like his writing. Home at 1:30 and after chatting to Lorraine, simply slept as I am still feeling a bit under the weather. Lorraine out ...

Haggling

Back to work. Finding myself a good deal better than I was last Thursday, meant that the day passed smoothly and unremarkably. All to the good as I was dealing with the estate agent and negotiation on price. We are almost there now, I hope, but will have to wait till the haggling is done and dusted. Back to Brighton without incident. Downloaded The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. He is a marvellously subtle writer, and I am enjoying this book immensely. Off at Brighton and popped into Sing Li as Lorraine was doing Governor training. All very friendly in there. Chatting to a man I knew there waiting for his fish and chips, who I'd seen at a couple of the Shakespeare Heptet gigs. Then back through the station dodging past a scuffle between two station workers containing a fighty drunk little man before getting home to lounge before the TV watching football. Dominated this evening by the Uruguayan Suarez having a bite at an Italian defender. This is his third biting offence ...
