Boiling down to heat
It all boils down to the weather. Another record day which is killing people across Europe. I am finding it hard to get anything done, the heat brings a weird kind of lethargy with it. An ominous time. Even hanging some washing on the line around noon made me feel wussy. Mostly I lurked in shadows, editing the podcast interview, and a few other things -- so wasn't completely unproductive. Bumped going to Brighton to see Anton this evening.
The breeding gulls on the roof seem to have had some calamity. I think one of the two young fell off landing next door, and the gull that hates me is not at its usual station on the roof, and I can't see either of the two young. Much as I resent being dive bombed and screamed at, I feel sorry about this.
Beth and Enzo here today. Beth sounding businesslike as she worked in he dining room, but was able to hang out with us for lunch in the garden. Beth expanding on her theory that there was nothing nicer in a sandwich than thin slivers of cucumber that had been allowed to sit in the sandwich for a few hours. Beth's food rules are unique. Apparently Enzo loves strawberries, but only eating them outdoors and when they are handed to him. It's almost as if they are related. The little lad had a cough today, but was otherwise cheery. Lorraine took him outside and we spent time in the garden under the big umbrella. Getting windy though, which helped with the heat. Lorraine popped the little lad in a baby bath which he enjoyed.
Mum seems to be managing the heat well, despite it being hotter in Edgware than down here by the sea.
The wind died down in the evening, and it was back to sweltering at night. We watched some world cup highlights, plus three episodes of Babylon 5. It has one continuous story arc, and it is very well done. Episode one, series one is so dire we almost gave up, but it rapidly became fascinating and increasingly complicated, with characters changing with events. Used our air fryer to cook chicken wings tonight.
Below Enzo having water poured on him by Lorraine.
