Dozing in the shade

Woke up wanly on the gold sofa. A lively night with Enzo waking up at 1.10 am, too hot and with a nasty cough. Lorraine looked after him brilliantly, we took him downstairs where it was a bit cooler, and opened up the windows. Lorraine got him soothed and asleep after about two hours, put him down again and he woke up crying right away. Eventually we had all the windows wide open, stripped the bed, and I slept on the gold sofa finally getting to sleep again after four, but with a new found respect for Beth and James and people with babies generally. Some of the teenagers next door went out and sat in their inflatable pool making lots of noise from 6am, which, with the windows all open was tiresome.

Breakfast with Lorraine and the lovely boy Enzo, who looked bright despite everything. Breakfast interspersed with Lorraine and I pushing lego cars on the table top while he wriggled with pleasure.

I chatted with Delores, and medicined her with Dioralyte sachets. She perked up enough to go home this afternoon. Meanwhile Beth came around and hung out with us for a few hours this morning. Spoke to Mum later, who had gone again to Church. Mum has agreed to come down to stay with us for a few days not next week but the week after. Be good to get her by the sea and in the garden, and give her a change of scene.

Hottest day of the year so far. The afternoon, Lorraine and I simply sat outside, I fell asleep under the big umbrella for an hour while Lorraine was doing some pottery. We listened to the radio 5 on the last day of the Premier league, when all the matches start at the same time for the only day of an enjoyable season. Chelsea finished 10th after a shambolic season, mainly caused by the American Clearlake Capital, part of a consortium BlueCo, who bought the club, being utterly clueless. Arsenal won it at long last. West Ham were relegated instead of Spurs, which would have been far funnier. Only a few weeks before the World Cup starts, and England commence their traditional humiliation. Not that the England team should be going to the Berlin Olympics Trump's USA in the first place.

I cooked. A peaceful night with Lorraine and the house to ourselves watching Babylon 5. Early to bed.
