Ron and Carolyn get wed
Lorraine and I up after a decent night's sleep in a comfy bed, in good time for breakfast in the Draumossie Hotel -- where we forked down a Scottish breakfast (with tasty circles of haggis) and then returned to the room, to squeeze into our , and then a bit more work on the 'secret project'. Lorraine also framed up a heart celebrating their wedding date she had cross stitched. Then we squeezed into our wedding clothes (I always put on weight in Scotland) and went below, where there were lots of men in kilts and so on. Into the function room, which looked simple and elegant. Ron standing at the front, and Carolyn proceeded by a piper and led down the aisle by her brother John. There is something about the sound of the bagpipes that I find inexplicably moving. It's well known that bagpipes are essentially noisy tartan octopuses but the sound brings tears to my eyes in a good way. Carolyn looked exceedingly elegant in a wonderful dress. And Ron kilted, bright eyed and cheery.
The ceremony went off well, despite the rings had to be swapped around, and was warmly received by the onlookers. Then we nipped outside where there were photos taken. It was a good deal cooler than it had been, and there was a little light rain during the day. The photographer very controlling, which of course they should be. Chatting with Leslie and Derek, who are such nice people.
Later there were speeches, which were all done nicely. At the wedding breakfast we were put on a table with one of Ron's teenage grandson called David and Wynter, David's goth girlfriend who moved from Chichester to live in Skye, and Dougie and his nice wife, who is a community nurse, whose name escapes me. All jolly company.
Lorraine and I then popped upstairs for a cuppa and returned a little later, there had been talk of everyone having to do Scottish Dancing but when we went back down that seemed to have passed. A lively covers band, which some folks danced to. I don't personally find a cover version of Hotel California makes me want to get my groove on, but we did dance and it was fun.
Most importantly Ron and Carolyn and their families seemed to have had a marvellous day, and we had a good laugh too.
Below, the happy couple, Leslie, Derek and Lorraine and the excellent piper in his finery.
