under another sun

Breakfast with Lorraine. Sylwia arrived, telling us she's going to visit her Mum in Poland in the next day or so. Lorraine set off to do Rhyme Time before going around to Pat and Maureen's place, to explain to Maureen that the lunch plans had been cancelled as Uncle Steve could come because of yellow warning of torrential rain. Luckily this blow softened by Beth and Enzo visiting.  I chugged up to Mill Hill, carrying a large bag to cover all eventualities. Bus to Edgware then I went straight to the Lane End Surgery. Turns out the sample I took there on Monday wasn't marked as urgent so the results will take up to a week. The receptionist was very kind when I explained the urgency.  Mum's throat sounding better, her eyes less sore, but she was coughing lots last night apparently. Lots of sleeping today. I filled in another online triage form, and then warmed up some soup and made cups of teas. Soon after Mum wanted another doze. I went out to do some food shopping. Stran...

A sweltering day, lapped up by beachgoers, while the  Extinction Rebellion gathers force up in London. Up and off into town fairly early as Lorraine had a haircut with Paul, for whom she can never be late. I bought Lorraine a birthday jigsaw in C&H fabrics. A woman in late middle age was choosing half a dozen jigsaws when I was there and was virtually body checking me to block me from choosing one in case it was one that she wanted. Puzzling behaviour. Then off to my usual Caffè Nero where I had a free coffee thanks to my full loyalty card, and spent an hour or so completing the edit on my new horror short story, called The Dream House. Had showed it to Lorraine this morning, and she liked it. I think it works really well. Collected Lorraine, with neat and sunny hair, from the hairdresser and sauntered back into town, and we went for a stroll down by the sea. Sam called and chatted to Lorraine for half an hour as we did so, and I dawdled about keeping out of the sun. The ...

Some settled snow this morning, although the day turned warmer and it was gone from the environs of Kenny Towers this evening. Up early and on with a few bits and pieces, including a futile search for my Power of Attorney document. Sigh. Then after a smidge of my own writing, I went into town. First for half an hour in the gym, and then onto the Caffè Nero at Western Road, where I saw some of my stained glass buddies, Chris, Adele, Sally, Kate and a newby called Jane. Ben popped in too, which was great as I wasn't able to see him the other night. Very friendly as ever. Nice chat and Ben had brought in his first ever piece, which showed clear talent right from the start. A man quite tall and solid sporting headphones and dancing outside the cafe in the road and pavement as we sat in the window. Stayed in Caffè Nero and met Innis, for a chat about our project and generally shoot the breeze about a variety of subjects. I bussed home, and spoke to Mum for a while.  Lorraine home at a...
