A cooler kind of Zombie

Lorraine and I up in the middle of the night to crane our necks out of the velux window in our bathroom. The moon being eclipsed, a thin sliver of moon, then a baleful rest of it. Annoyingly it was just about the least convenient place for the blood super moon to be viewed from our house, but still something of a magical sight. All day working from home, apart from sauntering off down the road to get my Yellow Fever jab, which I was able to receive this time thankfully, and a couple of packets of malaria pills. The same nurse as a few days ago. We got talking about why we are going, and she told me she was an Evangelistic Christian, and that she thought we were living in the End Times. We discussed her faith for a while, and why she had become a Christian.  Back home and back to work, before a relaxed evening in with Lorraine, and Betty and John watching another re-run of Les Revenants . We all like these cool French Zombies and a new series is coming up soon. Meanwhile NASA ha...

ruddy darter

Woke up late, and then simply had breakfast with Lorraine, had a walk about the place, and sat in the walled garden near the pond where a ruddy darter kept sitting on my trousers. Feeling a little better today, physically and the temperature gone. Then Lorraine and I worked through the afternoon on various bits of work. I also counted up the loot retrieved from the Poetry Book Fair and emailed Robin with the tally. Otherwise a bit all work and no playish in Osborne Road today. In the evening ate roast pork with Lorraine and Betty, and watched The Returned again, as Beth has not seen it. Loved the shot of a dead butterfly pinned to a board coming back to life again. The image I was going for in one of my poems called The Moth Display, before I saw it done but much better in film here.

Gassing in the pub

Up curiously early possessed by the idea that going to the gym at 8:30 was deeply sensible. En route met Reuben and Clare and the four boys at the bus stop as they were catching a coach to Gatwick. Had a long chat and joking about having been nominated by the City of Brighton to see them off. Instead of going to the gym, however, I came home and went back to bed having discovered the effort of standing up and talking more than enough. Two hours later L and I got up for a second time, and Lorraine cooked breakfast, which Toby slid down for. I had also to dispose of the body of a large dragonfly one of the cats had brought in. Then I went back to the gym, walking there with Toby who went off to lurk in the North Laine and find a place for coffee. I started gingerly, but soon felt quite good. Home again, and had a shower.  While getting ready to go out again, Sam sent me a touching note about L and my marriage. As I was finishing my reply, I happened to be sitting...

Love and French Zombies

Image
A sober day of restraint. Up late and off shopping, after eating a Quorn sausage sandwich with mustard in bed, brought to me by my lovely, and discussing plans for the wedding. Drove off, taking circuitous routes around the place to avoid the bulgy-calfed London to Brighton bicycle riders. I needed a new office chair, mine having spontaneously exploded a week or so ago while I was innocently sitting on it. We ended up at a place called Staples where I bought a chair called a Tweddle, which after assembling (and then reassembling it as I noticed it didn't look like the picture on the Chinese instructions) comfortable on the back, but a tad unforgiving on the rear. Perhaps my buns will steel themselves. Otherwise shopping with Lorraine. I always thought Lorraine and I were very happy together, but it seems that having become engaged has made us even closer. Pootling about shopping together great fun. Life is sweet. Eating salad this evening, and Lorraine went off to meet one of h...
