Too cute Up early and thinking of New York. Got to work, and now a smidge away from having my slimmed down 22 poem ms ready to send out and get cracking with. Spoke to Simon at some length this morning too, about various sustainability projects, and we'll see each other tomorrow - after I've done my interview with Pooran. Apparently the Cat with the Hat will be down in Brighton too. Sloped off for a swym, the pool was freezing, and the showers had no hot water. I spoke to someone in the gym and the spoke back, which is a bit of a first. Now listening to Dance Dance Dance by Haruki Murakami as an audiobook. I love Murakami's work, but this one seems to have slipped through the PK net. So I need to get it read. Good so far, and has a cat, albeit a dead one. His work makes me feel strangely calm. Got a note from the local radio, and a producer is going to call me about an idea I wrote to them with. Watch this space. In the evening Lorraine came around for a short while, and sh...
Memories and theories Nightmares last night after going to bed early but a beautiful morning. Today reminds me of MJ. Apart from the horror of the events on this day in 2001, which I watched live on TV at my agency with an American friend Craig, it reminds me of how we had swapped emails in the morning before the event - and in the days afterwards. And a few hours later was the first time I met MJ in person. Listening now to Saturday by Ian McEwen. The book, which is excellent, is set on the day of 15th February 2003. A day I also remember well as I joined the other two million people marching through London against the warmongering of the west - as a direct consequence of 9/11 of course. Actually marching was a bit of a misnomer, the march was creeping at a snail's pace, and bloody freezing it was too. Aft...

A different time Okay so I lied about Hammersmith Cemetery. Ended up taking yet another picture, and going for a short walk there with the French Bloke this lunchtime. It's like stepping into a different time, and we wandered around in it talking cheerfully about mortality. The FB's opinion is that the thing that remains after we die is not our spirit but actually the chemical elements that have made up our bodies, in the reverse of the usual religious orthodoxy. Left work at 4:00pm again, and made it back to Brighton very early. It's amazing the difference actually having an evening makes. As I left work I felt a wave of optimism about the future, and about poetry of all things. Arriving home I was surprised to find a hand-delivered envelope with a note from Anil, an old school friend, in it. I have not seen him for at least 25 years, but there were no contact details. As I type I am watching a recreation of the events of 9/11 on BBC tonight, due to the upcoming five year ...
