Edgware again, and nice nurses
Breakfast with Lorraine. Sylwia arrived, telling us going to visit her Mum in Poland in the next day or so. Lorraine set off to do Rhyme Time before going around to Pat and Maureen's place, to explain to Maureen that the lunch plans had been cancelled as Uncle Steve could come because of yellow warning of torrential rain. Luckily this blow softened by Beth and Enzo going around to see them.
I chugged up to Mill Hill, carrying a large bag to cover all eventualities. Bus to Edgware then I went straight to the Lane End Surgery. Turns out the sample I took there on Monday wasn't marked as urgent so the results will take up to a week. The receptionist was very kind when I explained the urgency.
Mum's throat sounding better, her eyes less sore, but she was coughing lots last night apparently. Lots of sleeping today. I filled in another online triage form, and then warmed up some soup and made cups of teas. Soon after Mum wanted another doze. I went out to do some food shopping. Strange vibes. In Sainsbury's my self service machine stopped and needed a staff code entering, so I waited for the employee to be free. You have to shout at the man, shouted an Arabic man at me apparently infuriated, and pointing at the member of staff. Shout at him, agreed the woman on the self service till next to me. Very odd.
Bought a pocket sized olive green notebook, a folder for the piles of correspondence on Mum's table and treated myself to a coffee in Caffè Nero. The woman who served me on Monday served me again. Duped into paying extra for my coffee with a special brew, which her boss, she told me, says is great. I said what do you think of it? I don't know she said, I only started today. Perhaps it was her identical twin on Monday. The coffee was meh, but nevertheless coffee.
Home, and I was surprised and delighted to find a rapid response nurse in attendance. An absolutely delightful person, who on listening to Mum's lungs thought she needed antibiotics for those, plus also agreed with the idea that Mum's has a bladder infection. The rapid response nurse called the doctor who agreed to treatment for both bladder and chest infection and immediately sent the Rx off to the pharmacy. The nurse also told mum she was very pretty. Some people are just excellent at being humans.
A big relief. Walked to the pharmacy talking to Lorraine about the niceness of nurses, which of course she agreed with. At the pharmacy I was given a bag and like a chump simply made off with them into the cold rain. Once home I discovered her usual prescription in the bag. Plunged back into the icy rain, and hared off to the pharmacy which was just closing. The pharmacist kindly relented, and gave me the right prescription.
Home and medicined mum, cooked a rather nice mild Chicken curry that mum had two mouthfuls of. We watched MASH and had a glass of wine. The Tobster called, checking on Mum and saying that he had sprung himself early from school due to evil snowstorms.
To bed not long after Mum had crept out to feed the foxes.
