Jane and Richard and Moulin Huet
Up and a full Guernsey breakfast. A quiet morning. Lorraine has been reading me the book she is reading, called Spoon-Fed - why almost everything we've been told about food is wrong by Tim Spector. It is full of the latest thinking about food, and challenges assumptions. One of the first things I have decided to do is remove artificial sweeteners which I take usually in coffee and Lorraine is going to give up low sugar orange squash. We are also going to look after our gut biomes and introduce more fermented stuff into our diets have meat less often, but of higher quality and ensure we are getting a wide variety of veggies. It's the start of a quiet revolution.
A lovely interlude when Jane and Richard came to La Barbarie and we sat outside having coffee and chatting. Did my heart good to see them, both of whom were looking tanned and healthy, having slipped the leash at last and gone to Italy earlier. Richard said he felt being locked down on a little island made the trapped feeling worse. Jane's book Barking Mad! is being read by thousands of people which is excellent. Richard gave me a chapbook called Lost Love containing work by Wendy Cope, Helena Nelson and... Richard Fleming. Lovely book, and a funny poem from Richard.
Fond, still socially distanced farewells as they are maintaining caution, with Richard and Jane. Lorraine and I had some salad and a shared a sandwich and then we simply had a nap. Getting up we then walked down to Moulin Huet where we had a gorgeous time. The tide was out, and Lorraine did her favourite thing of sitting on a rock and chilling out, I took my shoes and socks off and paddled about till my feet got too cold. A slow but steady walk up the hill back, sauntering home a walk that always takes me back to childhood, we walked past the end of La Rue Des Grons, and then made our way back to the hotel. A fast freshen up and then an excellent dinner. I had bass which was lovely.
We sat in the bar for a bit chatting and reading more of our new food bible, and then repaired back to the room. A lovely restful day.
Some snaps of Moulin Huet and the journey there and back.
