Crypt, garden, and a sleepover.
A beautiful day. Up and we went to the Crypt gallery. There was the sketchbook challenge exhibition. Actually very fascinating, and possibly the most interesting exhibition I'd seen there. Some lovely work on show. The challenge was to complete a sketchbook and there were dozens of them there. In fact far too many to look through properly. Some of them were from schoolchildren, and some from excellent local artists. While there, we bumped into Debbie and Adele who both have sketchbooks there. I think I'm going to have a go at it next year.
Then to Morrisons and I dropped off a pizza at Pat and Maureen's place. Pat in the sunshine by the window looking at the sea. Maureen saying darkly that people on the beach queuing for coffee at the kiosk were peering into her flat behind their sunglasses.
Once home, Lorraine and I spent time gardening in the front garden. I simply got to work deadheading hydrangeas now that the new growth is come. Lorraine planted up a camellia, a pink one like Mum has, and potted some pansies. The deadheading enjoyably repetitive, almost meditative. How satisfying taking away the old seed heads to reveal all the fresh green growth below.
Then Beth came by with the Enzo for a sleepover. He is so relaxed with Lorraine around, and is not alarmed by me either. It's a real pleasure to have him here. Lorraine and the baby went to bed early, and I stayed up to watch Chelsea deservedly being beaten by Everton. Chelsea have looked a bit of a rabble these days.
Below, some wonderful sketchbook stuff, two portraits by Kitty Oakley, who we have a print of at home, plus a notebook which every page was cutout woodland and turning the pages was like a walk through a wood -- I couldn't find the artist's name however. Enzo being made ready for bed.
