To Scotland
A 4:50 alarm this morning. We were on the first train out of Seaford, a little before six. Lovely to see the pools of mist in the fields making everything look mysterious and pearly in the first light. A five minute wait at Lewes before we were en route to Victoria. Then Euston on the Victoria Line. Not been in the deep tunnels on the smaller trains for a while. I didn't enjoy it. Caught the Aviva train to Glasgow at 8:30 which was somewhat cramped, and the buffet car had only teas and coffees and sweets and crisps.
Glasgow at 1.00pm, and after dragging our cases around a bit, went into a Pizza Hut. Not been to a Pizza Hut for decades. The pizza apparently made from donut dough. Yuk. Then to St Enoch's station, where we caught the circular Glasgow subway. Almost a miniature tube train notably smaller than the Victoria line. Off at Kelvinhall station and eventually found our way to the Airbnb rooms we were renting. A proper reddish Scottish tenement, hefted our cases up two floors and into a really nice apartment. A much needed sleep there, and then we walked to Sam's flat not too far away through Partick. Quite lively, with a sizeable Chinese community and lots of Chinese restaurants. Also very Scottish boozers too. We passed one called The Stumps, which enabled me to tell Lorraine it was formerly known as the Amputees Arms, an old joke of course.
We found Sam in a wee flat getting over a heavy cold, but otherwise in good spirits.
We went to an Indian street food restaurant called Rickshaw and Co. and the food was absolutely delicious, although we opted not to have chips with it like those on the next table. Delicious black lentil dhal, cauliflower dhansak, and beetroot and chickpea gravy, and lamb and chicken curries and bhel puri and poppadoms and so on washed down with a thirst quenching lager. Lots to catch up on, obviously, but good to see him cheery and enjoying being in a city again.
Below morning fields from the train not long after leaving Seaford, our Tenement view (the flat is lovely though), ceiling and Rickshaw in the Rickshaw and Co. restaurant.
