Long good-bye
Only an hour of coughing in the night, so a much better sleep. During the day felt more optimistic, as if the first faint lights of Covid recovery can be glimpsed in the east.
The deadline for Trump to begin committing war crimes passed in the night. Perhaps delusional, I had not feared Trump would do it. Instead some ten point plan presented via Pakistan, was accepted as the basis of a negotiation. Israel is already balking, and the list looks unachievable. The US has not looked so weak and risible in my lifetime.
Lorraine on full throttle. Off to deliver Rhyme Time first thing, then went round to be with Beth and Enzo, who were joined by Rosie and Emily, and one of the twins, and Beth's friend Lucy to discuss hair. Then Lorraine went off to Eastbourne to do pottery and was pleased with her results.
Mostly alone today, but feeling brighter. Getting to the end of The Long Goodbye now. I'd say it was the most literary of the novels so far, the narrator becoming unreliable, parts of a Historical Romance story, being written by one of the characters makes up a chapter. One of the characters, Roger Wade, is an alcoholic novelist, and while Chandler has fun with this, it also feels uncomfortably close to the knuckle too given that he was an alcoholic novelist. Like most characters in the books, Philip Marlowe drinks pints of whiskey over the evening, and smokes excessively. I can imagine the smell the stale smell of his office. Liking the grey and yellow cover designs on these books by Penguin too.
Watched a documentary about Paul McCartney, called Man on the Run, about what happened after he left the Beatles. All footage filmed at the time. Linda comes across as supportive, intelligent, creative, and wholehearted.
Off to bed, coughing. Want this particular long good-bye to done with now.
